Tom Gilman

My name is Tom Gilman. Probably like many other patients of the Alamo Heights Chiropractic Health Center, my story begins with a traumatic event. Mine was a swimming accident, resulting in 6 missing teeth and severe neck/shoulder trauma. Immediately after the accident, I knew I had done significant damage and the pain was quite intolerable. I saw a medical professional days after the accident and was told the issue was all muscular, so I began a regimen of massage therapy and ibuprofen. Over the course of a year this helped, but I still had significant tightness and decreased range of motion, especially in the neck.

A couple of months ago, I began researching my problem on the internet, which led me to the Alamo Heights Chiropractic Health Center. I should also mention that I was raised in a family that did not believe in Chiropractic medicine and therefore I was skeptical about any positive outcome. After my first assessment appointment I was amazed to learn the level of detail that would go into developing a program tailored to my specific needs. I was very shocked to learn I had lost more than two inches of height!! At the conclusion of my first appointment, Dr. Sandra asked what my overall goal was. My response was “I want to be taller than my wife again”!

Over the course of the past month that I have been a patient at Alamo Heights Chiropractic Health Center, I have made significant progress. Most of all, I’ve realized that Chiropractic’s alone will not get me back to my pre-accident condition. I’ve learned that I also must work diligently on the things I have control over, such as stretching, neck traction, improving core strength, eating healthier, getting plenty of rest and watching my weight and posture.

Most amazingly, in my first month I’ve gained two inches in height and significantly increased my mobility. I’m elated to say that once again, I’m taller than my wife…who by the way is my encouragement, the love of my life and my best friend!
